S-47 FET Microphone

The S-47 Microphone
The S-47 microphone is a large-diaphragm condenser with a high resolution circuit and a true 34mm K47 capsule.
Inside the mic body is a small toggle switch. We can build your mic in either of two ways: the internal switch could be a 10dB attenuation pad (recommended), or a Cardioid/Omni pattern switch. We recommend the pad option because the mic has fairly high sensitivity. Most artists and engineers will get more use out of the added SPL capability than from the Omni pattern.
To access the switch, spin the endcap off the XLR end of the microphone, and slide the body sleeve down. (No tools are required.)
Applications
This mic's response has a presence boost in the 4k-6kHz range, which brings articulation and definition to acoustic strings and piano. The mic can be magic on vocals and guitar cab.
Standard vs Platinum Edition
The standard version of the microphone uses the same circuit and components as the S-47 DIY Microphone Kit. The Platinum edition uses a different circuit and numerous upgraded components (in both the audio signal path and the supporting circuitry); it is not sold as a DIY kit. The Platinum version microphone can be considered a worthy upgrade for people whose budgets accommodate the increase in cost.
Every S-47 we build, whether standard or Platinum, is individually hand-tuned to ensure that it sounds exactly like the mics you've seen all the great reviews of.
The Platinum S-47 uses a heavy brass body, giving the mic a physical heft to match its sound. (Note - the brass body is available in matte black only.)
The Platinum mic weighs 400g, as compared to 315g for the standard edition.
In The Box
The S-47 includes a heavy-duty swivel mount and a vinyl storage pouch.
Recommended Shockmount
We recommend the Roswell Pro Audio "Cutaway™" shockmount, available exclusively here.
