Silver 25-Series Closeout
$ 199.00 $ 299.00
The silver S-25 / T-25 kits are sold out -- but we just discounted the 12-251 and V-47 tube mic kits (some of which are silver).
Stay tuned to the mailing list for future discounts and private sale opportunities, which are nearly always announced there first.
We have a handful of silver-body S-25 and T-25 microphone DIY kits available. Use the drop-down menu above to choose the S-25 or T-25. If the blue button is labelled "sold out" instead of "add to cart," it means this item is sold out. These discounted kits will not be restocked; this was a warehouse closeout sale. The $199 price is a roll-back to this kit's introductory price in 2018.
Big Discount, Imperfect Metalwork
Some of the mic bodies and/or grilles have minor cosmetic blemishes. If you are concerned about cosmetics, see the full-price DIY kits (links are below). If you want a great-sounding, versatile utility mic at the best price we've offered in years, grab one soon because these won't likely last the day.
Most of the silver mic bodies are painted. Some of the grilles are plated, so the color doesn't match. You can of course repaint the mic body if you wish.
The swivel mounts are silver; they also do not match the color of the mic body.
Applications
Both the S-25 and T-25 are extremely versatile. Both work very well on vocals, acoustic guitar, drum overheads, and percussion. See customer testimonials, review excerpts, and sound samples on these pages:
How to choose
The T-25 is 50% easier to build.
The frequency response is nearly identical, with the T-25 being slightly more neutral (darker). Neither mic is bright or hyped.
The T-25 has harmonic saturation, like vintage tube mics.
In the Box
Each kit includes:
- DIY circuit kit with 30-page step-by-step build guide
- capsule with mounting post and wires
- XLR insert with wires

These DIY kits require soldering and assembly.
Audio Samples
These were made quickly, just to give you an idea of the capabilities of the mic.
Voiceover (vs. U87 Ai)
Drum Overheads
RecorderMan position, mic pads engaged, no EQ, no compression, no kick mic.
The Tape Op Review
"For a small home or project studio, this mic, or a pair of them, would be a great option if you are looking for a single solution that will take anything you throw at it. For larger studios, this mic would be a welcome addition to the mic locker for acoustic instruments, overheads, or just as extra mics that sound great when you need them."
