SDC-84 Stereo Pair
$ 999.00
Pre-orders onlyDue to unprecedented demand for our SDC microphones, the SDC-84 Stereo Pair is backordered by approximately 2 weeks; orders placed today will ship by December 5.
The SDC-84 is our hand-built recreation of the Neumann KM84. This set includes two carefully matched microphones, two shockmounts, spare O-rings, and a hard case as pictured here.
This set includes matched Cardioid capsules. The capsules are detachable and interchangeable with our Omni and Hypercardioid capsules, which can be purchased separately; see the SDC Capsules page. Additional capsules purchased with this microphone set will include a small plastic storage box that fits into the mic case.
(If you'd prefer to buy this mic pair with Hyper or Omni capsules instead of Cardioid, let us know via email after placing the order, and we'll swap them.)
The DIY kit version of this product can be purchased here.
Testimonials
Four of us spent 10 hours auditioning them. We agreed that we liked them BETTER than our last encounter with actual KM84s. The SDC-84s have a smoother, sweeter top and minimal proximity effect. They are better than the real deal!
- Mark McQuilken, FMR Audio
I borrowed David Grisman’s favorite KM84, the one he used on all those David Grisman Quintet albums [as well as duets] Tone Poems, Doc and Dawg etc. I paired the two mics ... and sampled acoustic guitar, resophonic guitar, mandolin and banjo and sent him blind test samples. He chose the SDC-84 on two samples and the KM84 on two samples. That tells the story right there. ‘Nuff said!
- George Rezendes,
Toolshed SoundLabAlthough it's not intended as a direct clone, the SDC-84 gets as close to the [KM84] sound as anything else I've tried.
- Sam Ingles, Sound On Sound Magazine
I have a Neumann KM184 [$1595/pr] and a Soyuz 013 [$1399/pr]… Never used them again since I got a matched pair of these.

Platinum Edition
The Platinum Edition microphones contain upgrades throughout the signal path, including some very high-priced, rare, and custom components: input cap, JFET, JFET source cap, output cap, etc. The new capacitors use different values and formulations than the DIY kit or standard mic. We've also added an additional decoupling capacitor to the Platinum circuit to improve the noise reduction filter.
The Platinum Edition was redesigned in mid-2024 and now uses an updated circuit board, required to accommodate the above changes.
