Sprague "Vitamin Q" capacitors are foil capacitors with paper dielectric -- not metallized plastic film! -- impregnated with proprietary "hydrocarbon polymer" and hermetically sealed in metal cans. These capacitors have been revered for decades in audio applications.

NOS Vitamin Q capacitors are widely sought after as an upgrade for electric guitars, where they are called "tone capacitors." Sprague Vitamin Q caps are an upgrade for Orange Drop, Bumbleebee, and Black Beauty capacitors. The sealed metal housing was designed to meet or exceed stringent military specifications (specifically, MIL-C-25A), which means these caps have retained their value, performance, and sound in a way that few other vintage paper-dielectric capacitors have.

We test these capacitors prior to shipping to verify capacitance.

Type 191P and 196P are the "extended foil" design. The 191P parts are rated for 85°C operation. The 196P parts are rated for 125°C operation.

The "Style 2" parts (SKU ends with "S2") are bare metal cans. The "Style 4" parts (SKU ends with "S4") have a clear plastic sleeve over the metal can.

We can discount orders of 5 or more pieces; contact us with your specific request.
