Custom Microphone Sale

$ 289.00

This page contains prototypes and one-off custom builds that we've made to clear out the mic locker of 3rd-party donor mics.

All of these mics have 3rd-party branding, but none of them have their original capsules or circuits. These are all fully rebuilt microphones.

If the mic you're interested in is marked "sold out," that means somebody else got to it first -- but check back in a couple days, because we hope to add a few more options to this page at the end of November.

MXL 870 - MicParts transformerless circuit (based on Schoeps), RK-87C capsule. This mic is essentially our S-87 ($579) with no internal switch. Finished mic price: $289. Includes MXL shockmount and packaging.

MXL 2008 - MicParts transformerless circuit (based on Schoeps), RK-87C capsule. This mic is essentially our S-87 ($579) with no internal switch. Finished mic price: $299. Includes MXL shockmount, rigid plastic case, and packaging.

Sterling ST55 - MicParts T84-55 circuit with MP6.5 transformer, RK-47C capsule. The mic has a 10dB pad and a high-pass filter (-3dB @ 150 Hz), both accessible via independent external switches. The DIY equivalent would cost $298 for parts, $75 for the donor mic, plus build time. Finished mic price: $299. Includes swivel mount and dented Sterling flight case.

MXL 3000 - MicParts T-84 circuit with MP6.5:1 transformer, RK-12 capsule. Switches inside the mic provide Cardioid/Omni pattern switching and a 10dB pad. This mic is essentially identical to the MicParts T-12 ($599). Finished mic price: $449. Includes MXL "Vocalist" packaging, MXL shockmount, metal-mesh pop filter, and Mogami mic cable (untested).

ADK A51 - MicParts T-84 circuit with MP6.5:1 transformer, custom capsule (our proprietary K67 variant that does not need corrective EQ). The mic is sonically the same as our T-67 (regularly priced at $599), without the internal switches. Finished mic price: $389. Includes ADK shockmount and zipper pouch.

MXL V67 - MicParts T-84 circuit with MP6.5:1 transformer, custom capsule (our proprietary K67 variant that does not need corrective EQ). The mic is sonically the same as our T-67 (regularly priced at $599), without the internal switches. Finished mic price: $379. Includes MXL swivel mount and zipper pouch.

Stellar CM1800 - prototype transformerless circuit, essentially the same as the S-25 ($239 for the kit, $349 for the finished mic). Includes Stellar shockmount and  foam windscreen. Note - the donor mics have the XLR connector backwards from common practice (and they're wired with reversed polarity too). We've corrected both problems, but be aware that the rear side of the mic body has the painted Stellar logo on it. We have two of these available, which we've matched for stereo recording.
